In the '80s while stationed in Italy, Jon discovered handmade knives in a magazine and was instantly hooked. After getting out of the Air Force, Jon made kit knives with basic tools. From those humble beginnings, Jon went on to design the iconic Razel - a cross between a chisel and Razel. Jon passed in 2022 and his legacy lives on in his unique and useful knife designs.

Having served in the 101st Airborne Division in Iraq, and as a street cop in Columbus, GA, Austin knows a knife has to work as both a weapon and a tool. As part of the Forged By War™ program he applied his skills as a combat vet and knifemaker to develop the Clever Girl™. When asked about his design philosophy, he’ll tell you that if a knife is ugly but effective, it’s not ugly. It’s perfect.
